Lot 283: A set of five antique clear glass apothecary bottles for North Bridge Pharmacy Ltd

A set of five antique clear glass apothecary bottles, each of upright rectangular form and complete with ground-glass stoppers. The bottles feature fired-on black lettering in a capitalised sans-serif font. One bottle is inscribed INF. AURANT. CONC., a second INF. VALERIAN CONC., a third TR. VALERIAN AMMON., and a fourth INF. ROSAE AC. CONC. 1 : 7. The final bottle is inscribed CASCARA ET GLYCER EQUAL PART and carries a stained paper label. This rectangular adhesive label is printed in black and reads 150 ml. C v. with handwritten characters in ink reading 35p. Below this, the label identifies the source as NORTH BRIDGE Pharmacy Ltd. 6 North Bridge Edinburgh Tel: 556-5842. Three of the stoppers feature a vertical faceted fin-shaped grip, while the stoppers for the Valerian and Cascara bottles have flat rectangular tops. Several bottles contain visible residue of their former liquid or dried chemical contents.
