Lot 284: A Set of Clear Glass Apothecary Bottles with Enameled Titles

A set of five clear glass apothecary bottles of rectangular molded form, each featuring a ground neck and a corresponding ground glass stopper. Four of the stoppers are of a flat-topped wedge design, while the smallest bottle has an oval-shaped head. Each bottle is decorated with fired-on black enameled titles in Latinate abbreviated form. These titles read: ‘CASCARA, / LIQUORICE / ET GLYCER. / EQUAL PARTS’, ‘TR. / LOBEL. / AETH.’, ‘SPT. / AMM. / AROM.’, ‘OL. / TEREB. / RECT.’, and ‘TR. / GELSEM.’. The largest bottle retains a partial paper label for ‘NORTH BRIDGE Pharmacy Ltd. / 6 North Bridge, / Edinburgh / Tel: 556-5842’, which also features a handwritten inscription ‘150ml. C.V.’ and a small printed logo. Small air bubbles, known as seeds, are visible within the glass of several bottles.
