Lot 307: A Collection of Eight Vintage Glass Apothecary Bottles with Stoppers

An assortment of eight clear glass apothecary or pharmaceutical shop bottles of square-shouldered form with ground-glass necks and stoppers. Each bottle features sand-blasted or etched pharmaceutical titles to the front face, with several retaining their original black pigment. The titles include TR. IPECAC., SYR. GLYCEROPH. CO. B.P.C., TR. CARD. CO., AC. HYDROBR. DIL., SULPHUR SUB., MAG. TRISIL., BISM. CARB., and TR. FERRI. PERCH. Seven of the bottles are fitted with vertical rectangular-fin glass stoppers, while the final bottle (Tr. Ferri. Perch.) has a smaller stopper of a different profile. The base of the Tr. Ferri. Perch. bottle features embossed characters reading U S followed by a symbol that is not clearly legible (photo 4). The bottles show varying degrees of internal residue and staining characteristic of historical pharmacy use.
