Lot 337: Mid-Century Modern West German Hourglass Earthenware Vase

A West German earthenware vase of waisted hourglass form, flaring towards a wide rim and circular base. The exterior is finished in a textured, speckled matte glaze in shades of cream and grey, accented by two hand-painted abstract motifs featuring vertical rectangles in burgundy and yellow bisected by black lines. The interior is coated in a solid black glaze which extends slightly over the rim. The base (photo 4) features an impressed mark near the upper edge of the foot ring; however, the characters are faint and obscured by the glaze, rendering them illegible as a name or specific model number. The unglazed foot ring shows a pale clay body.
