Lot 645: A Jerusalem Earthenware Ovoid Floral Vase 30cm tall
A Jerusalem pottery ovoid vase, likely dating to the first half of the 20th century. The earthenware body features a predominantly turquoise and blue ground, densely hand-painted with Iznik-style floral motifs. The decoration includes stylized carnations in Armenian bole red, blue tulips, and saz leaves, all defined by black outlines. A darker cobalt blue band encircles the shoulder and the base, decorated with smaller green and red florets. The interior is finished with a clear glaze over a light-coloured body. The vase has a short neck with a slightly flared rim and sits on a recessed, unglazed foot ring. The base is marked with a hand-painted symbol consisting of two diagonal lines meeting at an angle, resembling a ‘V’ or checkmark.
