Lot 672: An Antique Stained Ash and Elm Smoker's Bow Captain's Chair

An antique smoker’s bow captain’s chair, constructed from solid wood including a thick-section elm saddle seat. The chair features a broad, steam-bent cresting rail terminating in scrolled armrests, supported by a spindle back. The substructure consists of four ring-turned legs joined by a reinforced H-stretcher. The timber displays a prominent grain pattern throughout, particularly across the contoured seat, finished with a clear varnish. The construction employs traditional joinery with spindles socketed directly into the seat and arm rail. No maker’s marks or labels are visible on the object.
