Lot 684: A Pair of George III Style Patinated Bronze Urns and Covers
A pair of George III style urns and covers crafted from patinated bronze or high-copper alloy. Each urn features a tapered ovoid body with a central molded girdle and is flanked by a pair of square-section loop handles. The vessels are raised on turned pedestal stems terminating in stepped square bases, which are fitted with protective felt pads to the undersides. The domed covers are surmounted by cast pineapple-form finials. The interior of the urns and the undersides of the lids exhibit circular turning marks and a reddish-brown patination. There are faint, illegible scratched characters on the rim of one cover, but no readable maker’s name or mark is present on either piece.
