Lot 686: Two Indian Metal Stackable Tiffin Lunch Boxes
Two antique metal stackable food carriers, commonly known as tiffins or dabbas. The first set is constructed from brass and consists of four cylindrical tiers held within a fixed vertical frame and secured by a top latching handle. The upper section of this set features an incised inscription reading DINNER followed by ZETVI and further illegible characters. A circular mark is impressed on the top of the lid, though the characters within it are not legible due to surface wear. The second set features a copper-washed metal finish and comprises three tiers. This carrier includes a decorative turned brass handle and a lid fitted with a small central vent or spout. The surface of the copper set bears a circular stamp depicting a central rose motif with text in a surrounding banner; readable characters include A, N, S, I, M, A, and M, although the full name is not legible. Both sets demonstrate utilitarian construction with riveted handle attachments and nested compartmental designs.
