Lot 437: Two antique metalwork items comprising a 19th-century hammered copper and brass coal scuttle and a neoclassical style brass pedestal bowl
This lot contains two antique metalwork pieces. The first is a 19th-century helmet-shaped coal scuttle, constructed with a planished (hammered) copper body. It features a heavy brass swing handle secured by riveted brass mounts shaped into decorative quatrefoils, a secondary brass handle to the rear, and is supported on a circular brass base rim. The interior is blackened from oxidation and historic coal use. The second item is a brass pedestal bowl or centerpiece, likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The bowl is decorated to the exterior with embossed neoclassical floral swags and bows, while the interior rim displays a repeating foliate border. It is fitted with two ornate cast scrolled handles and stands on a flared pedestal base. The underside of the base is covered with green felt. There are no visible maker’s marks, stamps, or signatures on either piece.
