Lot 441: A Collection of Antique and Vintage Hat Pins and Two Porcelain Hat Pin Holders
A collection of vintage and antique hat pins featuring a diverse assortment of decorative heads and materials. The lot includes loose pins and two ceramic holders.
Loose pins displayed in a tray include a carved bone or bovine ivory-style tapered head; a faceted black jet-glass head; a brass-toned insect motif with a blue glass cabochon body and red paste eyes; a woven cord knot; a filigree metal ball; a pale blue glass acorn; a clear frosted glass double-loop knot; a large mother-of-pearl blister pearl; an egret feather plume in a wire mount; a green carved hardstone figure; a white teardrop faux-pearl; and a striped fabric-covered head. The collection further includes several small steel pins with simple black and silver-toned spherical heads.
The first porcelain holder is a white vase decorated with hand-painted blue floral swags and gilt accents. It contains pins with large faux-pearl heads, rhinestone-encrusted metal caps, and a large iridescent sequin-covered cone. The second holder is a Satsuma-style jar decorated with traditional Japanese landscape scenes and floral motifs. There are marks on the base of this porcelain, but they are not clearly legible as a name. This jar contains pins with elaborate woven wire, bead, and faux-pearl clusters, including a grape cluster and a white head with dark studded accents.
The pin shafts are constructed from steel or brass-toned metal. No maker’s marks or hallmarks are visible on the pins themselves.
