Lot 445: A Pair of Victorian Style Cast Iron Lion Head Door Knockers

A pair of heavy-duty cast iron door or gate knockers in the Victorian style. Each piece is designed as a relief-cast lion mask mounted onto a circular backplate. The lion heads feature detailed manes, expressive eyes, and prominent muzzles, with a heavy solid iron ring held in the mouth. Each circular backplate is pierced with three countersunk mounting holes positioned at the top and sides. An integral circular striking plate is located at the base of each mask where the ring makes contact. Raised characters are present on the lower left and right edges of the circular backplate on both masks; however, these marks are obscured by surface rust and the casting texture and are not legible as specific names or words.
