Lot 448: A Collection of Beswick and Composite Horse Figurines and Wall Plaques
An assortment of ceramic and composite horse-themed decorative items. The collection features a variety of equine subjects in different scales and finishes.
The ceramic figurines include a large bay Shire horse in a high-gloss glaze, complete with a full working harness featuring red and black leather-effect components and metal chain link traces. The horse is depicted with four white feathered legs and a white facial blaze. A standing matte-finish bay horse is included, bearing a black printed circular backstamp on the underside featuring an arc of text reading BESWICK above a crest containing the letter B, with ENGLAND below (photo 6).
The collection contains five small gloss-glazed foals in various poses. A dapple grey foal bears an impressed mark reading BESWICK ENGLAND on the underside next to a circular vent hole (photo 7). A brown foal features a faint black printed circular backstamp reading BESWICK ENGLAND (photo 8). Another brown foal has a small circular vent hole with illegible indentations nearby (photo 9). Completing the ceramic group is a gloss-glazed chestnut horse with a white blaze and two white socks.
Accompanying the figurines are two large wall plaques in the form of three-dimensional horse heads. These bosses are constructed from a textured composite or resin material with a matte finish; one depicts a light chestnut horse with a blonde mane, and the second a dark bay with a black mane.
