Lot 565: Oxney Green Pottery Flow Blue Maritime Plate and Cream Jug 39x39cm

Two pieces of glazed earthenware pottery from Oxney Green, Essex, featuring transfer-printed maritime decoration in the flow blue style. The lot includes a circular display plate with a wide rim and a bulbous cream jug with a simple loop handle and pinched pouring spout. Both pieces are decorated with nautical scenes depicting fishing luggers and seagulls. The central well of the plate shows two vessels, marked with the registrations RX56 and RX80, moored against a harbor wall. The rim is further embellished with smaller repeating vessel motifs and gulls. The cream jug features a matching scene of the boat RX56 under sail. The registrations identify the vessels as being from the Hastings fishing fleet. The base of the jug bears a printed black mark reading Made in OXNEY GREEN England. The reverse of the plate shows three kiln stilt marks from the firing process.
