Lot 588: T.A. Scurfield, Mouth of Tyne, Watercolour 55x45cm

A traditional watercolour on paper titled Mouth of Tyne by T.A. Scurfield. The topographical composition captures a coastal perspective from a grassy cliff edge overlooking the entrance to the River Tyne. To the left, a cluster of timber and brick maritime buildings are depicted, including a structure with a central lookout tower. Below the cliffs, a rocky shoreline is visible at low tide, leading out to the North Pier and its lighthouse. A tugboat is positioned within the waterway against a pale, atmospheric sky. The work is rendered in a muted palette of ochres, greens, and blues, characteristic of mid-20th-century British landscape painting.

The artwork is signed and titled in dark pigment along the lower foreground. To the left is the handwritten title Mouth of Tyne. with a line underneath. To the right is the artist signature T.A.Scurfield. also underlined. The piece is housed behind glass in a double mount and a dark-stained wood frame.
