Lot 596: A Trio of Contemporary Nautical Themed Oil and Mixed Media Paintings

This lot consists of three contemporary paintings on varied supports including canvas and board. The largest panel on the left is an oil on board painting depicting a fisherman wearing a cap and jacket, engaged in mending or hauling green nets. The scene is set against an industrial harbour background and is executed with expressive, textured brushwork. The second large panel is a mixed media construction on board featuring a painted central human torso and a whale’s tail emerging from the water. A physical three-dimensional element is applied to the surface, consisting of a thick, knotted natural fibre nautical rope which transitions into frayed blue synthetic twine at the base. The third piece is a smaller portrait of a man with red hair, wearing a green garment, rendered on a deep-edged gallery-wrapped canvas. A prominent blue diagonal light or shadow is cast across the subject’s face. All three works are unsigned and unframed.
