Lot 603: Hand-Carved Wooden Cylindrical Grain Measure with Animal Figures and Basket Weave

A cylindrical grain measure or storage vessel, hand-carved from wood with a dark reddish-brown finish. The exterior surface is divided into two distinct horizontal registers by raised bands. The upper register features low-relief carvings of stylized animals, including a large horse or bull, a smaller quadruped resembling a calf, and several bird figures. The lower register is decorated with a deeply carved basket-weave or checkerboard pattern. The construction comprises vertical staves joined to a circular base, reinforced with an iron strapwork cage consisting of four vertical braces and two horizontal bands secured with small metal tacks. The interior and base show natural wood grain with some staining consistent with former use. A faint incised mark is present on the central horizontal band but is not legible as a name or formal inscription.
