Lot 608: Two Mid-Century Evening Bags and a Silver-Toned Powder Compact with a Daly's of Scotland Box
A collection of vintage evening accessories. The first item is a silver-toned floral brocade or lamé fabric clutch bag, featuring a gathered pouch design. The metal frame is embellished with multiple rows of clear faceted rhinestones and includes a decorative rhinestone-encrusted clasp and a fine silver-toned chain strap.
The second item is a black beaded evening bag with a corded shoulder strap. The exterior is decorated with a fanned sunburst motif, using black seed beads for the background and iridescent blue, green, red, gold, and bronze bugle beads for the fanned sections.
The third item is a square silver-toned metal powder compact. The front surface is decorated with an intricate engraved floral and foliate scroll pattern, including birds or mythical creatures nestled within the foliage.
The items are presented with a pale green and blue lidded retailer’s box. The lid is printed with a pattern of dancing figures in 18th-century style dress. The printed decoration includes a stylized cursive script inside an oval laurel wreath reading ‘Daly’s’ and the words ‘OF SCOTLAND’ in block capitals. To the right, a larger wreath repeats the script reading ‘Daly’s’, and the word ‘SCOTLAND’ is printed beside another pair of figures. This packaging identifies the retailer as Daly’s of Scotland, the historic Glasgow department store.
