A topographical watercolor on paper by William Connell, depicting Tynemouth Townscape from the midpoint of the North Pier during a gale. The scene captures a dramatic maritime atmosphere with heavy white spray from crashing waves in the foreground and two seagulls in flight over a turbulent sea. The distant shoreline features the silhouetted architectural forms of Tynemouth Priory and a lighthouse under a dark, moody sky. The work is signed W Connell in black pigment to the lower left corner.

The verso of the frame carries several inscriptions on the brown backing tape. One inscription in pencil reads W/colour. William Connell. A second inscription states Tynemouth – townscape from midpoint of North Pier / NB. Pier now straight after rebuilding following breaching by gales. A newspaper clipping is also attached to the back, titled Tynemouth North Pier by Charlie Steel, featuring an image of the breached stonework in January 1897 and providing historical details of the pier’s construction and subsequent damage. The painting is presented behind a double mount of cream and green within a wide-grain light wood frame.
