Lot 260: A trio of Marzi and Remy Westerwald salt-glazed stoneware vessels

A trio of Marzi and Remy salt-glazed stoneware vessels, comprising a central flattened circular flask and two companion handled ewers. Each piece is constructed from light grey stoneware with relief-moulded decoration picked out in cobalt blue. The central flask features a circular body with a central medallion depicting the legend of Saint Hubertus, showing a hunter kneeling before a stag with a crucifix between its antlers, set against a background including a castle and forest. This vessel is flanked by two handles in the form of rams heads and has a moulded cherub mask on the neck. The pair of ewers each feature a bulbous body decorated with various moulded medallions, including a hunting scene with a man, dog, and stag, and a solar Man in the Moon face. These are surrounded by scrolling floral and foliate motifs in relief. The bases are marked with an impressed triangle containing an urn symbol, with characters including 769 B, 769 A, and 709 A.
