Lot 588: A large Chelsea Pottery earthenware oval dish painted by Joyce Morgan

A large earthenware oval dish or presentation tray, supported on three integral, unglazed feet. The interior features a central hand-painted motif of two owls perched on a branch, set against a textured, swirling ground finished in a mottled blue-grey glaze. The owls are rendered in shades of ochre, brown, and white with yellow eyes and mauve facial discs. The reverse of the dish is finished in a deep navy-blue glaze. The base bears an impressed circular mark featuring the word CHELSEA in an upward arc at the top and POTTERY in a downward arc at the bottom, surrounding a central stylised letter S inside a circle. The piece is accompanied by a handwritten note on white paper reading Owl Plate is Chelsea Studio pottery Painted by Joyce Morgan.
