Lot 590: A Clive Brooker studio pottery owl jug and cover

A studio pottery figural jug modelled in the form of an owl with a removable lid. The two-part construction consists of a handled body and a domed lid shaped as the owl’s head with a flat top featuring an incised spiral motif. The exterior is decorated with a textured finish and mottled glazes in shades of cream, grey, and reddish-brown, with green highlights to the wings and head feathers. The surface of the body features impressed U-shaped marks to represent plumage. The interior of both the jug and the lid is finished with a dark, glossy black glaze. The neck of the jug body is impressed with the characters GOOD LUCK. The unglazed red clay base features an incised signature reading CLIVE BROOKER, although the first letter C is partially obscured by a chip. The item is accompanied by a handwritten note on a paper envelope stating Owl Jug is by Clive Brooker.
