Lot 592: Huntley & Palmers Ltd Egyptian Revival Vase Shape Lithographed Biscuit Tin

A Huntley & Palmers Ltd lithographed tinplate biscuit tin manufactured in the form of an Egyptian vase. The cylindrical body features an embossed frieze depicting figures in ancient Egyptian-style dress amongst architectural elements. The neck is decorated with a lithographed winged sun disk above stylized papyrus or lotus motifs. The piece is fitted with two circular ring handles attached to the neck and includes a detachable recessed lid with a central knob finial. The base and neck rim are finished with geometric and floral border patterns. The base bears a lithographed circular mark in black lettering on a gold ground. The top arc reads HUNTLEY & PALMERS LTD followed by a decorative line with a four-petalled flower symbol, the centre reads BISCUIT MANUFACTURERS. above another decorative line, and the bottom arc reads READING & LONDON, ENGLAND.
