Lot 658: A sculptural glazed earthenware ewer modelled as a siren
A sculptural studio pottery ewer of earthenware construction, fashioned in a highly stylised form. The central body is modelled as a face with almond-shaped eyes and a calm expression, flanked by two large, rectangular wing-like projections featuring impressed, feather-like textures. The vessel is supported by a flared, turned pedestal base and topped with a narrow, flaring spout. A single loop handle is attached to the reverse of the main body. The entire piece is finished in a lustrous, mottled green and brown glaze, with varying tones and pooling in the recesses of the modelling. No maker names, signatures, or impressed marks are visible on the exterior surfaces shown in the photographs.
