Lot 690: A J.G. Hawley Bristol sprigged stoneware spittoon

A Bristol-glazed stoneware spittoon of cylindrical form. The top is funnel-shaped, tapering to a central circular drainage hole, with a further circular opening to the side. The exterior is decorated with an applied sprigged relief band of grapevines featuring leaves and grape clusters, bordered by two bands of moulded bead decoration. An impressed two-line mark on the side of the body reads ‘J.G. HAWLEY’ and ‘BRISTOL’. The ceramic is finished in a light beige glaze.
