Lot 696: A 1984 British Military MOD Pattern Type D Survival Knife and Leather Sheath
A British Military Ministry of Defence (MOD) Pattern survival knife, also known as a Type D jungle or aircrew survival knife. The heavy-duty, single-edged carbon steel blade is designed with a drop-point profile. The full tang construction features two-piece hardwood grip scales secured by three large flush-fit copper rivets, with a steel crossguard and a lanyard hole at the pommel end. One wooden handle scale is impressed with two rows of markings. The top row reads 1278214, and the lower row features a capital letter D inside a diamond, a Broad Arrow or pheon mark, and the numbers 84. These markings identify the item as British Government property manufactured in 1984, with the numerals representing the final seven digits of the NATO Stock Number 5110-99-127-8214. The knife is presented with its original brown leather sheath of stitched and riveted construction.
