Lot 125: Ken Hayer, Coastal Village Harbour Scene, Watercolour on Paper 88x67cm

A representational coastal landscape watercolour on paper by Ken Hayer, depicting the harbour at Staithes, North Yorkshire. The composition is viewed from an elevated grassy foreground, looking down onto a cluster of white-walled cottages with red-tiled roofs. A single blue rowing boat is moored in the narrow harbour inlet, which leads out to a headland and the open sea under a clear sky. The artist has employed a loose, painterly style with wet-in-wet washes for the sea and cliffs, contrasted with drier, more gestural brushwork for the architectural details and foreground foliage. The work is signed Ken Hayer in dark ink to the lower right corner. The painting is housed behind a wide white mount in a light-toned wooden frame with a textured finish.
