Lot 131: Sydney Lawrence, Watercolor Landscape, Lake Scene with Figures and Mountains 63x38cm frame 42x19cm picture

A traditional British landscape watercolor on paper, depicting a panoramic view of a lake or loch. The composition features a foreground path with three figures in nineteenth-century dress, a small structure with a thatched or shingle roof, and autumnal trees. Beyond a narrow strip of land, the water reflects a pale sky, set against a backdrop of distant, hazy mountains. The work is signed Sydney Lawrence in dark red paint at the lower right, with the ‘J’ underscored and extending beneath the first name. Graphite underdrawing is visible through the light washes in the mountain outlines.
