The composition features two large sailing vessels moored at a stone quay to the left, their complex rigging and masts rendered in fine detail against a hazy sky. A single small sailboat with a dark sail is positioned to the right in the open water. The artist has utilised a muted palette of greys, blues, and ochres with fluid washes to convey the atmospheric conditions. The work is signed in the lower-left corner in dark pigment Jules Lessore. The painting is housed within a multi-layered cream mount featuring a hand-lined gilt border and a printed identification label below the image window. The label reads JULES LESSORE R.I., R.W.S. 1849 – 1892. The piece is set in a decorative gilt-finished wooden frame.
