Lot 179: Antique Middle Eastern Flintlock Muzzle Loading Rifle with 47 Inch Barrel Antique

This is a single antique muzzle loading flintlock rifle circa 19th-century Middle Eastern or North African manufacture. The firearm is configured with a long dark patinated iron barrel secured to a wooden full-stock by several brass bands. The stock is embellished with brass overlays and a distinctive large brass patch box on the buttstock, featuring a hinged cover engraved with three circular dial motifs containing Roman numerals. The action consists of a flintlock mechanism with a heavy S-shaped cock and a large steel frizzen, though the flint and its associated wrap are missing. The trigger assembly is housed within an iron guard featuring a long curved extension. Several components are missing from the lock plate area, resulting in significant wood loss and an exposed internal cavity. The stock terminates in a curved butt plate and exhibits heavy wear, scratches, and abrasions throughout. No maker’s marks or serial numbers are visible on the metalwork.
