Lot 182: Two 19th Century Powder Flasks

Two mid-19th-century powder flasks of teardrop form, comprising one copper example and one plated metal example. The copper flask features a plain body with a brass charger and nozzle assembly. The brass collar is stamped PATENT in capital letters. The adjustable nozzle is graduated with a stair-step cutout and a sliding spring catch, with numerical markings for 3, 3 1/4, 3 1/2, 3 3/4, and 4 drams. A leather thong is tied around the neck. The second flask is constructed from a silver-toned plated metal, possibly Britannia metal, with a brass charger assembly. The collar is similarly stamped PATENT. The adjustable nozzle features a stair-step cutout for volume adjustment, though the specific dram markings are obscured. This example includes a small suspension eyelet to the side of the collar. Both flasks employ internal spring-tensioned lever mechanisms for dispensing powder.
