An English glazed earthenware advertisingashtray for Newcastle Brown Ale. The circular vessel is formed in the style of a crown bottle cap with a fluted rim. The upper surface features an orange glaze with blue transfer-printed graphics. The centre displays a blue five-pointed star containing a silhouette of the Newcastle upon Tyne skyline including the Tyne Bridge, surrounded by a circular border. The outer ring is printed in blue block lettering reading NEWCASTLE • BROWN ALE •. The underside is finished in the same orange glaze with an unglazed foot ring. The base bears a central black printed mark consisting of an arched line reading HENRY W. KING & CO. LTD above a stylized letter K logo and a straight line reading MADE IN ENGLAND.
