Lot 347: An Eccles Type 6RS Protector Miners Safety Lamp

A British miners flame safety lamp constructed from a combination of steel and brass. The upper section features a tapered steel bonnet with ventilation holes and a top plate fitted with a brass hanging hook. A circular brass nameplate is riveted to the bonnet, bearing the embossed text THE PROTECTOR LAMP & LIGHTING CO LTD around the top border and ECCLES around the bottom border. The central portion contains the inscriptions TYPE 6RS, MINISTRY OF POWER, SAFETY LAMPS, and APPROVAL NO. B/28 above the word MAKERS. The lamp contains a central glass cylinder protected by five vertical brass pillars. The lower section consists of a heavy brass fuel reservoir with an external locking lever and an adjustment screw at the base. The locking mechanism is stamped with the numerals 11. Internally, a wick burner and igniter mechanism are visible through the glass.
