Lot 518: A Pair of Staffordshire Pottery Greyhound Hounds with Hares

A pair of glazed pottery figurines modelled as mirror-image greyhounds or whippets. Each hound is depicted in a standing pose, supported by a central tree stump on a molded naturalistic base decorated with green-painted bocage tufts. The dogs are finished in an orange-tan sable overglaze palette with white chests, muzzles, and lower legs. Each figure carries a hare in its mouth, the prey rendered in a tonal brown glaze. The dogs wear simple collars with gilded highlights. The bases are finished with a single gilded line to the lower edge. The undersides of the bases are glazed white and each features a single small circular vent hole. No maker’s marks, signatures, or factory stamps are visible on the figurines.
