Lot 651: Smiths Enfield Oak-Cased 8-Day Striking Mantel Clock

A Smiths Enfield mantel clock featuring a mechanical 8-day striking movement housed in a dark-stained oak case. The arched case terminates in two ebonised block feet. The circular dial has a wood-grain finish and is applied with brass-tone Roman numeral hour markers, enclosed within a hinged brass bezel with a domed glass lens. The ornate hands are finished in a matching brass tone. The rear of the case opens via a hinged door to reveal a brass movement plate stamped SMITHS and 521. A coiled metal gong rod is mounted to the interior base. The interior case wall and the back of the movement bear several notations in white ink, reading M J M 03 / 15, M J M 09 / 21, and M J M Oct 2026. The dial is printed below the centre point with SMITHS ENFIELD MADE IN ENGLAND. This lot includes an original printed instruction booklet titled INSTRUCTIONS FOR STARTING YOUR SMITHS 8-DAY STRIKING CLOCK from SMITHS CLOCK & WATCH DIVISION, SECTRIC HOUSE, WATERLOO ROAD, LONDON, N.W.2. Accompanying the clock are two winding keys: one traditional brass T-handle key and one black circular-handled key. Documentation indicates a service and restoration in March 2015, followed by a case swap and further service in September 2021, with a future service scheduled for October 2026.
