Lot 189: A hand-painted Rajasthani style bulbous metal vessel
A hand-painted bulbous metal vessel, of surahi form, featuring traditional Indian courtly figures in the Rajasthani style. The vessel is constructed with a rounded body, a short cylindrical neck, and a flared rim. The exterior is decorated with polychrome pigments over a black ground, depicting multiple arched panels containing figurative scenes. One central panel shows a seated couple in conversation, dressed in red patterned attire with pearl-style necklaces, set against a backdrop of stylised green trees. A secondary panel depicts a single female figure in a green and red sari holding a white flower. The shoulder and neck are finished in a gold-coloured pigment, accented with green scrollwork, red floral motifs, and a black band with white circular dots. The vessel has a slightly recessed, unpainted base. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the object.
