Lot 401: A Vernacular Carved Hardwood Milking Stool

A vernacular hardwood milking stool constructed with a thick, D-shaped seat carved from a single piece of wood. The seat features a raised rim and a central pommel carved to the front edge. The stool is supported by four legs: two front legs of turned, bulbous form terminating in circular pad feet, and two rear legs of curved, splayed form. The underside reveals the rough-hewn texture of the wood and the joinery of the four-point support system. The dark-stained timber shows a prominent grain throughout. There are no maker marks or labels present on the piece.
