Lot 403: Antique English High Back Windsor Armchair with Crinoline Stretcher
A late 19th or early 20th-century English Windsor armchair in a traditional high-back hoop-back form. The chair features a solid elm seat with characteristic wide, prominent graining and a shaped, saddled surface. The upper hoop and vertical spindles are socketed into the seat, supported by a central horizontal mid-rail that flows into the out-swept armrests. The armrests are supported by turned pillars. The under-frame consists of four ring-turned legs, likely constructed of beech or ash, joined by a curved crinoline stretcher and two straight side stretchers. The chair is finished in a dark-stained varnish.
