Lot 406: CWS Provisions Dept Newcastle Aluminum Ham Transport Box

A mid-century industrial transport box constructed from riveted aluminum sheets. The rectangular container was designed for the transit of perishable goods, featuring four circular ventilation holes to each side. The hinged lid is embossed with the text C W S PROVISIONS DEPT, NEWCASTLE, QUALITY COOKED HAMS, CHARGED, and £ 4. A stamped maker’s mark is present on the lid surface, comprising the letters C W S within a rectangular border positioned above a stylized wheatsheaf symbol. The box is fitted with heavy-duty steel drop-handles at either end and a central steel hasp and staple for securing a lock. The interior reveals the open, riveted framework of the aluminum construction.
