Lot 418: A Pair of Gothic Revival Dark Patinated Metal Altar Candlesticks 45cm

A pair of tall cast metal candlesticks finished with a heavy dark patina. The design is in the Gothic Revival style, featuring a deep socket cup with a crenellated rim of pierced foliate and fleur-de-lis motifs. The sockets contain residual white candle wax and charred wicks. Each candlestick has a baluster-form stem punctuated by multiple decorative knops and turned mouldings. The stems terminate in flared circular bases decorated with incised geometric patterns and bands of repeating square and circular relief motifs. The metal surfaces show areas of green verdigris oxidation, particularly around the lower sections. No maker’s marks, signatures, or country-of-origin labels are visible on the exterior surfaces.
