Lot 606: A Collection of Carved Wood and Metal Decorative Items Including African Figurines

A collection of vintage decorative objects primarily comprising hand-carved wood and metalware. The group includes a pair of tall, slender African figurines in a dark, dense wood, possibly ebony; one depicts a woman carrying a vessel on her head, the other a bearded man in a contemplative stance, both standing on integral hexagonal bases. A large wooden box is carved in the form of an elephant, featuring dense incised skin textures and decorative trappings, with a removable top section.

A complex folding wooden object, possibly for cigarettes or stationery, features multiple hinged sections, openwork fretwork, and several rows of circular recesses. Also included is a dark-stained rectangular wooden box, the lid decorated with chip-carved sunburst and foliate motifs within a geometric border. A rectangular brass or mixed-metal casket features a hinged lid with an engraved Art Nouveau-style stylized butterfly or floral motif. Additional items include a small cylindrical wooden pot with a carved bird on the lid, an abstract polished wood carving of a seated figure, and a studio pottery stoneware pitcher with a variegated blue and green glaze and slip-trailed foliate decoration. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible on any of the items.
