Lot 710: A 32-piece hand-painted wooden folk art chess set in original box

A complete 32-piece wooden chess set, designed in the style of traditional Russian folk art. Each piece is constructed from turned wood with a hand-painted and high-gloss lacquered finish. The set comprises two opposing sides, one decorated in a red and orange palette and the other in a dark blue and orange scheme.

The red side includes a king depicted as a bearded figure with a crown, a queen as a crowned female figure, two bishops with pointed mitre-style headwear, two knights rendered as stylised horse heads, two rooks as castle turrets, and eight pawns as smaller rounded figures. The blue side contains a matching distribution of 16 pieces with equivalent character designs. The underside of each piece is fitted with a dark blue felt protective pad.

The set is presented in its original navy blue cardboard storage box, featuring a fitted white polystyrene insert with individual compartments for each piece. No maker’s marks, country of origin labels, or signatures are visible on the chess pieces or the interior of the packaging.
