Lot 712: Victorian Mahogany Brass Bound Campaign Writing Slope

A Victorian mahogany campaign writing slope featuring a later red painted finish. The rectangular box is constructed with brass banding, corner mounts, and a central shaped brass cartouche to the lid. The front features a brass escutcheon and a white metal key. The interior is fitted with a double-slope writing surface lined in dark brown leatherette with a pull tab. Lifting the upper section of the slope reveals a secondary storage compartment. The internal mahogany carcass is fitted with a brass lock plate stamped with the uppercase characters SECURE LEVER.
