Lot 714: Two Studio Pottery Stoneware Vessels
Two studio pottery stoneware vessels comprising a decorated vase and a handled jug. The vase is of rectangular tapering form with a rounded shoulder and a flared circular rim. It features a body decorated with hand-modelled and slip-decorated stylized trees showing sgraffito details, interspersed with white blossom flowers and butterflies against a crackled white and tan slip background. The neck and flared rim are finished in a dark green glaze with metallic flecks. The lower corner of one face bears an incised square frame containing a monogram of the letters GP above a triangular arrangement of three small impressed points.
The second vessel is a bulbous stoneware jug with a single loop handle and a short neck featuring a slightly recessed rim. The upper portion exhibits an orange-brown salt-glazed appearance with a speckled orange-peel texture, transitioning to a smoother, darker brown glaze on the lower body. The underside of the base is unglazed and bears no visible maker’s marks or stamps.
